ASDOT notation is not an IETF standard. One reason for this policy
proposal is based on APNIC decision to adopt the ASDOT notation before
it went through the standards track at IETF. RFC4893 has no mention of
the ASDOT notation currently used by APNIC. Though, the use by APNIC and
other RIRs has created a belief that it's a standard.
It was APNIC decision to adopt the ASDOT notation, and it's upon the
APNIC process to make necessary allocation for documentation purpose,
thus this proposal.
Of course, if APNIC reverts back to using regular integers for 4byte
ASN, the intent/purpose of this particular proposal will become moot.
