All,
Section 4 of apnic-109-v001 titled Experimental Allocations Policy dated 29 December 2003 states the Goals of the Policy as follows: “The goal of this policy is to provide fair access to Internet resources for genuine researchers, to encourage development of new technologies and refinement of standards”. However, apnic-109-v001 (inadvertently showing the status as Active) has been rendered obsolete explicitly by apnic-109-v002 dated 29-December 2003 which in turn has been obsoleted by apnic-127. However, the goals enumerated in apnic-109-v001 has been carried forward as Section 5.7.1.1 in apnic-127.
There appears to be no condition in apnic-127, Section 5.7.2 - Experimental Allocations Policy dealing with eligibility criteria restricting experimental allocations or mentioning from which /8 the resource needs to be given. Hence, if the request for experimental allocation satisfies Section 5.7.2 requirements, then the requestor is eligible to receive it.
Further, it will be good to know from secretariat, how many requests per year are we talking about here and how many allocations are currently active? Irrespective of the answer, I will be spirited to support, reserving # of /24 for experiment purpose. This will be in line with the spirit of Experimental RFCs being developed in IETF and also the intended goal of the policy. So delegation from last /8 till the time there is nothing left to support possibly should be supported.
Looking forward to views of others.

Hi Anupam and All,
In the last 10 years, we've made two experimental allocations.
- IPv6 only in 2010 - IPv4 and IPv6 (same organization) in 2018
We may soon receive a request for IPv4 only.
Regards, Sunny

Dear Sunny,
Thanks for sharing the information. Based on your experience & understanding Is there any specific reservation made in other RIRs?
I am willing to put a number for reserving certain /24s for experimental purposes as part of policy and hence looking for a benchmark number.

Dear Anupam,
We don't think other RIRs have made any reservation for experimental purposes. Just FYI, our current minimum delegation size for IPv4 is a /24 and maximum is a /23.
