Dear PacNOG list members,
Trust you are well.
During past PacNOG events we shared information about opportunities available to ISPs and network operators in the region related to:
1) Hosting a root server instance at their network premises, and
2) Implementing DNSSEC validation
As an ongoing support, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) at ICANN have published a number of papers that are available from
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/octo-publications-2019-05-24-en
For ISPs, the paper [OCTO-010] titled “Brief Overview of the Root Server System” offers more information around the 4 key items:
1. DNS Resolution Process
2. Root-Server System
3. Community involvement and ICANN role
4. Hosting a root-server instance
If the ISP you represent is interested in hosting a root server instance, please write to me offlist.
Another paper, [OCTO-006] titled “DNSSEC: Securing the DNS” is also useful reading.
Finally, if you work in a Top-Level Domain registry do take a look at [OCTO-011] – “The Public Suffix List: A Guide for TLD Administrators”
Kind regards,
Save
