Hi Rene and btNOG folks,
Foremost, thanks to the btNOG coord team (especially those in based Bhutan)
for a successful event! And our international delegates who took time to
share and interact.
With regards the WhatsApp group, while it is good to have multiple
channels/forums to discuss technical issues and ideas, the mailing list
will remain active.
The issue as I see is not whether we type with "all our fingers" or just
our "thumbs". Rather it has been the lack of operational technical issues
being discussed and/or lack of knowhow being shared.
Perhaps its because we are too shy or we dont want to look stupid infront
of our peers.
If moving to IMs can help with more relevant and active discussions, we
should be open to it - Slack, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp! Doesnt matter
what platform it is.
And if the current gen of engineers/technicians prefer IMs over mailing
lists, we should listen to the majority and adapt/adopt.
But let us also be careful not to create a fragmented community based on
preferences of tools.
