I have a question on IPv6 assignment registration. If this is not the right mailing list, please let me know.
Section 5.6 Registration in http://www.apnic.net/policy/ipv6-address-policy/text states:
5.6 Registration
When an organization holding an IPv6 address allocation makes IPv6 address assignments, it must register assignment information in a database, accessible by RIRs as appropriate (information registered by an RIR/NIR may be replaced by a distributed database for registering address management information in future). Information is registered in units of assigned /48 networks. When more than a /48 is assigned to an organization, the assigning organization is responsible for ensuring that the address space is registered in an RIR/NIR database.
My questions are 1. Does this mean LIR will need to maintain a local whois (or some database that hosts the assignment records), that is publically accessible, or at least accessible by APNIC? 2. If LIR chooses not to maintain a local whois database or equivalent, can LIR register assignments between /64 and /48 to APNIC whois?
Any help clarify the requirement is greatly appreciated.
