prop-043: Proposal to remove reference to IPv6 policy document as an
"interim" policy document
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This proposal was presented at the APNIC 23 Policy SIG but failed to
reach consensus as opinion was divided on the issue. Therefore, we
are returning the proposal to the mailing list for further
discussion.
Proposal details
----------------
The proposal suggests removing the reference to the IPv6 policy
document as an "interim" policy document in section 1.1 of APNIC-089,
"IPv6 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy".
Discussion at APNIC 23
----------------------
- It was suggested that both the IPv4 and IPv6 policy documents are
both undergoing constant amendments and that perhaps a statement
about being an interim policy document should be added to the IPv4
policy document.
- It was also suggested that the constantly changing nature of both
the IPv4 and IPv6 policy documents was a good reason to remove
the "interim" statement.
- It was suggested that the "interim" statement had been a
deliberate inclusion in the IPv6 policy document because of the
lack of experience in IPv6. It was suggested that perhaps the
community should review IPv6 issues raised and IPv6 policy
changes made to see if IPv6 policy has moved into a more mature
state. If IPv6 policy has matured, then it may be appropriate to
remove the "interim" reference.
