[apnic-talk] The APNIC EC's statement for the Review Panel Report
The Election Review Panel was announced on 11 June 2010, and
included members of the APNIC community who are independent,
widely known and well trusted The Panel was given a specific
mandate to review and report on the events of the 2010 EC
Election. The report itself analyzed and made recommendations
based on evidence that was gathered during and after the
electoral process in Kuala Lumpur but limited to the events
that happened at that time.
The EC acknowledges that on the topic of this election panel
there has been a prolific discussion in the apnic-talk list.
Allegations have been made under this subject, some
frustrations have been expressed and also some proposals were
put forward. We take note of these discussions although would
like to state with concern that some of the contributions to
this discussion have not been constructive.
As the panel report shows, these discussions were not
considered as part of the scope of the report. This does not
mean that the discussions and proposals are to be neglected
by the community. The EC would like to encourage open
discussion by members and a constructive evolution of APNIC.
It has been made clear to us that the Election Review Panel
solicited inputs from all interested parties, and received a
large volume of responses. This process was open and inclusive,
and provided ample opportunity for input. The Panel's reports
are now complete, and their conclusions are to be clear and
for the record.
The APNIC EC urges all members of the community who have an
interest in this matter to read the Panel's reports in full.
The apnic-talk mailing list is open for discussion of any
issues of interest to the APNIC community. As for matters
outside of the scope of the Panel's brief, these are of course
open for further discussion.
The APNIC EC is now considering the recommendations of the
Panel's reports, and will report back to the community as
agreed during APNIC 30.
With Best Regards
MAEMURA Akinori, Chair of the APNIC Executive Council
