Free WORKSHOP (Target audience - ISPs, 16:00 - 17:30)
William B. Norton presents "Peering Simulation Game" that helps you
understand the issues ISPs face when peering. His presentation would be
fun and help the participants gain the foundation of peering knowledge,
help minimize telecommunication cost by peering, and learn about the
tactics that Peering Coordinators have used to obtain peering
effectively. He also points out the opportunities and challenges that
ISPs need to be aware of, through the simulation game and with the
real-life examples.
Specifically,
- For ISPs, the presentation would help you understand more
about peering and minimize the cost of telecommunication.
- For Students and general audience, this would be a great
opportunity to learn about peering, transit, and what and how peering
play an important role in the Internet from the well-known expert and
the author of several white papers described below.
William B. Norton is Co-Founder and Chief Technical Liaison for Equinix.
His research focuses on large-scale interconnection and peering
research, and in particular scaling Internet operations using optical
networking.
>From 1987 to 1998, Norton served in a variety of staff and managerial
role at Merit Network, Inc., including directing national and
International network research and operations activities, and chairing
the NANOG. He's been an active member of the IETF for the past 15
years.
His research white papers include:
- Interconnection Strategies for ISPs
- ISPs and Peering
- Business Case for Peering
- The Art of Peering: The Peering Playbook
- The peering Simulation Game
- Do ATM-based Internet Exchange Points Make Sense Anymore?
* We will have some of his research papers available at the meeting
site, but there are three available at:
http://www.apia.org/Meeting-Taipei/APIAForumAGMatAPRICOT2003-11-26.htm.
OPEN FORUM
IX Forum (Open and IX operators are welcome, 14:00 - 15:30)
Paul Vixie of formerly PAIX and other IX experts will present the status
of IXs and the issues and challenges they are facing today. Also, there
will be an opportunity to discuss face-to-face with those IX experts.
