Routing Workshop, Taipei, Taiwan, 22-26 August 2001
Dear Colleagues,
A Routing Workshop will be provided by Cisco Systems from Wed 22 to Sun 26
August 2001, prior to the 12th APNIC Open Policy Meeting in Taipei, Taiwan.
The workshop is being coordinated and hosted by APNIC.
This is a call for applications for places available in this workshop.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The target audience for this course is persons in the ISP community with a
basic familiarity of Cisco Systems equipment. This is a technical workshop
and most suitable for engineers who are now or will soon be building or
operating a wide area TCP/IP based Internet Service Provider (ISP) network
or Internet eXchange Point (IXP) with international and/or multi-provider
connectivity.
Prerequisites include Cisco IOS fundamentals, user level UNIX and preferably
some system administration, and some experience in TCP/IP network design.
Preference for this course will be given to those individuals who come from
developing areas of the Asia-Pacific region.
Preference will also be given to participants who are APNIC members (or
prospective members) and are attending the APNIC Open Policy Meeting (28-31
August).
Due to strictly limited numbers, participants in the tutorial will be
selected based on the information provided in the application form enclosed
below.
WORKSHOP SCOPE
- Techniques for design, set-up, and operation of a metropolitan, regional
or national ISP backbone network. This includes advanced OSPF, BGP4 and
policy based routing.
- Cisco IOS Essentials every ISP should be doing. The hidden secrets that
all key ISPs have been using for years but not telling anyone.
- Techniques for multiple connections to the Internet (multihoming),
including connections to IXPs, NSP and transoceanic Internet links.
- Techniques for the design, set-up and operation of a metropolitan,
regional or national IXPs
- Techniques to achieve optimal performance and configuration from a Cisco
backbone router. This includes routing scalability, network design and
configuration techniques.
- Examples from a case study from successful ISPs who are making use of many
of the workshop techniques.
COURSE LOCATION
The course will take place at The Grand Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan. Successful
applicants will be notified of accommodation details, however accommodation
cost is *not* included in the fees detailed below.
The instructors for the Workshop will be Philip Smith and Vincent Ng of
Cisco Systems.

* The deadline for application submissions Friday 20 July 2001.
* Selections and notifications will be sent by Friday 27 July 2001.
* Payment deadline: Friday 10 August 2001.
* Routing Workshop: Wed 22 to Sun 26 August 2001.
* APNIC Open Policy Meeting: Mon 28 to Fri 31 August 2001.
WORKSHOP COSTS
The workshop is being provided at cost-price of US$330 per head. This fee
covers all related workshop materials, tea breaks and lunches for 5 days.
The fee does not cover travel or accommodation costs.
Payment must be made in advance to APNIC, using credit card, direct bank
transfer, or bank draft/cheque. Payment details will be provided to
successful applicants when they are notified.
We regret that registration can only be accepted if payment (or proof of
payment) is received by APNIC by the due date of Friday 10 August 2001.
