prop-063: Reducing timeframe of IPv4 allocations from twelve to six months ________________________________________________________________________
Dear SIG members
Below is a summary of discussions on the proposal to date. We encourage you to continue discussions on the mailing list before APNIC 26.
Regards, Randy and Jian
Proposal summary ----------------
This is a proposal to change the maximum timeframe APNIC uses to make IPv4 allocations to meet LIRs' needs from twelve months to six months to help ensure the fairer distribution of the remaining unallocated free pool.
This proposal has not been submitted in any other region.
Discussion statistics ---------------------
Posted to Policy SIG mailing list: 17 July 2008
Number of posts: 1
Number of people participating in discussions: 1
Summary of discussion to date -----------------------------
- It was noted that the current twelve-month allocation timeframe is a maximum timeframe and that account holders can request less than twelve months worth of IPv4 addresses if desired.
Full details of the proposal, including links to previous discussions of it at earlier APNIC meetings, can be found at:
No strong support for this in JP.
People did not find this would provide strong benefits in exchange to additional workload it would put on APNIC/NIRs/LIRs.
Perhaps, if there are some data on how much chance for requests it would increase for LIRs in general, then, may be the opinions will change.
At this stage, we oppose to this proposal.

Hello Izumi,

Do you have any estimation what the additional workload on JPNIC would be, out of interest. It's one thing asserting "there will be more", but I'd be really interested to know how much more.
The reason I ask is that, I can see there will be twice the workload if each member came back to APNIC/NIRs exactly once every year. But do they come back more frequently than this, or less frequently? Do they ask for a full year ahead, or shorter time frame.
Perhaps, if there are some data on how much chance for requests it would increase for LIRs in general, then, may be the opinions will change.
Heh, do you have any data from JPNIC's experience?
Thanks!
