________________________________________________________________ Document update:
Amendments to document "IPv6 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy"
- making public registration of customer assignments optional - evaluating existing IPv4 networks for IPv6 requests - allocating IPv6 address space to 'private' networks ________________________________________________________________
APNIC seeks final comments on the following draft document:
----------------------------------------------------------------------- * IPv6 address allocation and assignment policy -----------------------------------------------------------------------
The document has been updated to reflect the implementation of three policy proposals endorsed by the APNIC Executive Council. The changes are as follows:
- public registration of customer assignments is made optional by using a 'public' attribute in the APNIC Whois Database;
- the use of existing IPv4 infrastructure and customer base when evaluating IPv6 requests is clarified;
- allocations to private networks (those not connected to the public Internet) are explicitly allowed.
It is available at:
http://www.apnic.net/docs/drafts/draft-ipv6-address-policy.html
This draft is intended to implement the consensus decisions reached at the following meetings:
- APNIC 16 (endorsed by the Executive Council on 20 November 2003) in relation to proposal prop-007-v001.
- APNIC 17 (endorsed by the Executive Council on 14 May 2004) in relation to proposals prop-015-v001 and prop-016-v002.
Details of the original proposals and links to discussions are available at:

Nature of the document review ----------------------------- This is an editorial review only. The APNIC community has already reached consensus on the policy issues which are to implemented.
Therefore, during the comment period, interested parties may: - object to the draft document on the grounds that it does not properly reflect the consensus decision reached in the Policy Review Process; - suggest improvements of any aspect of the document; - request that an additional call for comment be made to allow more consideration of substantial revisions.
Deadline for comments ------------------- Your comments are requested by 11 August 2004. Please send your comments to the sig-policy mailing list. Details at:
