IT’S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE AT THE JAPAN PACIFIC ICT CENTRE!
Teams will develop code that is a *SOLUTION* to a *PROBLEM STATEMENT* that will be issued between the 22nd-24th April, 2016.

This is a global competition where after being presented with a Problem Statement from Washington D.C will commence work on developing code that will solve the problem.
The Japan Pacific ICT Centre http://www.usp.ac.fj/index.php?id=11599 in collaboration with the US Embassy (Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu) will host the Pacific #Fishackathon and would like to invite coders from around the Pacific to Suva, Fiji to participate in this exciting event. Coders will gather at the Japan Pacific ICT Centre to develop sustainable code for Fishing.
The Fishackathon is an initiative of the US State Department.
Fishackathon is a public-private partnership that aims to capitalize on the expansion of mobile phone and internet use across the developing world to address sustainable fishery challenges.
The annual Fishackathon event calls on coders and science enthusiasts from all around the world to come together to create new applications and tools for use on mobile phones and other devices, which can help fishers work smarter and more safely in sustainable fishing.

The United States *Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships* http://www.state.gov/s/partnerships/ organized the inaugural Fishackathon around the Secretary’s Our Ocean conference in 2014. The 2014 Fishackathon took place at aquariums and tech hubs in *five cities* http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2014/06/227456.htm across the United States, and the 2015 event expanded to *twelve cities* http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/04/240989.htm around the world.
