Country Code Delegation
For a while now, the delegation aspects of country code top level domain names (ccTLDs) have been largely governed by RFC 1591 [1]. Over the last few years there have been numerous instances where the process of either delegation and/or redelegation have been initiated and the Pacific is no exception. From various forums, conferences, meetings, it has become increasingly clear that there were aspects of RFC 1591 that is still not clear or remains silent/ ambiguous. To this end, there was a need to develop clear guidelines involving the delegation or the redelegation process.
ICANN is conducting a consultation on ccTLD Delegation and Redelegation User Instructions and Source of Policy and Procedures[2]. The User Documentation on Delegation and Redelegation of ccTLDs is also available [3].
We only have till 30 September, 2013 to comment. All governments in the region should also make submissions if they feel it is appropriate. Country code Managers also should prepare submissions and response.
Should people want to have one consolidated response, we can also do that and happy to hold the pen. Suffice to say, the ALAC has already started voting on a statement [4] but that should not stop others from preparing and making submissions.
