Dear Colleagues:
If a phone is locked to a Network and then further unlocked. Does this mean that it is untraceable/untrackable as far as tracking the IMEI Number is concerned?
Help please.
I think the only sure way to make a phone untraceable by IMEI is to pull out the battery and hit it repeatedly with a hammer.

I know for sure that you can change your IMEI (or more accurately mask your real one) on some rooted Android phones. Please note that it may be illegal to do so in many countries.

Ok so the scenario is that my cellphone got stolen. The phone was previously locked to one of the Networks and then unlocked by that Network. Upon them trying to run a trace there is difficulty in them tracking the IMEI number and they are saying that it is because it was previously unlocked.
Hence the question - I just want my phone back. Appropriate warrants had been served on the two major networks and my SIM is still in use from the call records post date of theft.
It's an Android - Samsung S5 and I was an idiot not to register it under Samsung or download a traceable app.....ugh
