I use the combination of Collusion for Chrome to visualize who and how
I'm being tracked:

And, DoNotTrackPlus to block sites from tracking me, but still allow me in:

These are both available for Firefox as well. Collusion makes some very
pretty / interesting graphs as an added bonus.
