-------------------------------------------------------- Protection of historical Internet resource registrations --------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues
APNIC has now implemented proposal prop-018-v001 regarding the protection of historical Internet resource registrations. Consensus to implement the proposal was reached at APNIC 17 in February 2004 and the APNIC EC endorsed the proposal in May 2004.
The proposal document, presentation, minutes, and discussion are available at:
www.apnic.net/docs/policy/proposals/prop-018-v001.html
Policy summary --------------
APNIC has now protected all registrations of historical resources with the APNIC-HM maintainer, a practice consistent with the management of current resources.
To ensure integrity of information, APNIC will not update historical information in the APNIC Whois Database until the resource holder demonstrates the organisation's right to the resources and enters a formal agreement with APNIC either as a member or as a non-member account holder.
Associated fees ---------------
APNIC members will not be subject to any additional fees to maintain historical resources.
APNIC non-member account holders wishing to update resource records will be subject to an annual US$100 account fee for all historical resources that are managed under their account name.
Effect on resource holders --------------------------
The policy does not prevent resource holders from continuing to use their historical resources.
The US$100 non-member fee only applies if resource holders wish to update their resource registration in the APNIC Whois Database.
More information ----------------
